What Makes the Statue Disappears?
The Vanishing work is composed of a series of parallel slices of stainless steel with gaps in between. When viewed from the slice direction, only about 10% of the metal is visible, the rest is open, showing the scenery behind the sculpture. In addition to the small amount of metal that can be seen at that “vanishing angle”, the polished stainless steel also reflects the surrounding colors, making the work more integrated into the environment. From any angle significantly different from the vanishing angle, the sculpture appears to be solid, as the narrow gaps quickly obscure the view of the sculpture as the viewer moves.
